Entrance Requirements for Applicants

The below conditions must be meet prior to being accepted to the Class A CDL Academy Training Program

  • Must be 21 years old (or 18 years, if all commercial driving will be done within Utah and if no hazardous materials, requiring placards, are transported and if you do not drive double or triple trailer rigs)
  • Must have a current and valid drivers license with no DUI/DWI/OMVI motor vehicle substance convictions in the previous three (3) years
  • Must be able to obtain a valid medical examiners card by passing a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam and drug screen
  • Must have no felony convictions
  • Must present a valid photo ID and social security card
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently enough to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries and to make legible entries on truck reports and records

Entrance Procedures

1.    Complete pre-qualification requirements, to include Application for Enrollment
2.    Interview with Admissions Representative and receive recommendation of eligibility acceptance
3.    Complete Enrollment Agreement
4.    Pass DOT physical exam and drug screen, present a copy of the Physical Exam of Drivers form, completed and signed by a licensed medical professional
5.    Pay registration fee, if applicable, as reflected on the Enrollment Agreement
6.    Acceptance of application by School Director
7.    Finalize tuition payment and/or other arrangements

Credit for Prior Training/Experience

Individual consideration for credit will be given to an applicant with prior training or experience.  The Director of Training will evaluate an individual on actual work experience, previous training and driving ability. An adjustment to the full tuition may be offered in consideration if previous credit is given. Certificate of completion or diploma may be required to give credit for previous training.

Transfer of Credit to Other Schools

Class A CDL Academy neither implies, nor guarantees that any other institution will accept credits earned at The Academy.  Each institution maintains its own policies and procedures that govern credit acceptance.

Completion Time

All students are expected to complete the required training within the same amount of time as the other students in their cycle. Special consideration will be given on a case-by-case basis if a cycle deviation is requested. The Academy does not guarantee cycle deviation request approval.

Cancellation of Classes

If The Academy is unable to provide training for any reason beyond its control, such as, but not limited to natural disaster, inclement weather, etc. the Academy reserves the right to suspend training for a period of not more than 120 days.  In such a case, The Academy will do everything possible to notify the student ahead of the scheduled class time.  If any student were to be affected by such circumstances, they may return to training, upon reopening, at no additional tuition charge.

Open Door Admissions Policy

Class A CDL Academy admissions is open to all applicants who desire to obtain a Class A CDL. All applicants must complete a personal interview with an admissions representative to determine if the applicant meets the above requirements and could successfully complete the course.
